Much like an adventurer going to an uncharted territory is a coach going with another into his heart discovering what lies ahead together. The heart is another universe in and of itself. A land full of life and beauty and goodness waiting to be beheld by a curious explorer. A land teeming with possibilities and opportunities. A land created to be delighted in and to be enjoyed. While the vastness of its potential is with great abundance, it’s also a place full of mysteries and obscurity. A place full of things that are hidden and unknown.
“The purpose in a man’s heart is like deep water, but a man of understanding will draw it out.” – Proverbs 20:5
If the heart of a man is like deep water, then the coach is the man of understanding. But only for a time being. He becomes the one that draws out purposes that are hidden in his depths and at the same time identifies what is holding him back. The man of understanding divides between faith and fear.
Through questions, the coach tears through the dark and mysterious waters lying deep within the heart of man until there is clarity. Through questions, he begins to cut through the brushes and make way for vision so that he can take the first step towards what lies before him. Through questions, the coach is actually inviting him to become the man of understanding of his own heart able to divide what is faith and what is fear. He becomes equipped to know how to see. He becomes the expert at navigating the deep water that is his heart.
“Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.” – Proverbs 4:23
